Support Groups

Being well is about more than remaining physically healthy or undergoing medical treatment for your illnesses. Being well is also about your emotional health. Northwest Hospital & Medical Center offers a variety of support groups for patients, their families and friends. Each group is an outlet for the feelings that may emerge during treatment for serious health issues. Support groups also provide a forum for learning from other patients’ experiences or for sharing your own story. Northwest Hospital offers support groups for people facing cancer, heart disease, grief and many other problems.

Better Breathers Club

Join the club to learn tips and techniques to better manage lung disease.

Offered: Second Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Rehab Patient Dining Room.

Breast Cancer - A Healing Place

This support group is an opportunity for sharing and receiving support while coping with advanced breast disease. Offered second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Call the facilitator at (206) 920-5462 for a brief interview prior to joining.


Cancer Lifeline Programs at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center

The following support groups are offered in partnership with Cancer Lifeline. Cancer Lifeline provides a unique array of services – from support groups and classes to activities and presentations – aimed at optimizing the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors, families, and friends. Programs are free, open to the public. Groups are held in the Medical Arts Building (MAB), Room 112. Breast Cancer Networking Group
This group is for breast cancer patients, survivors and their family members or friends. The primary focus of this group is to provide professional education and the opportunity to be with other women who are surviving and thriving. Gynecologic Cancer Support Group
This group is for patients with ovarian, uterine, cervical or any other type of gynecologic cancer. The meetings provide an opportunity to share your experience with other women living with similar challenges. Lung Cancer Support Group

Diabetes Support, Resources and Network

Learn about and discuss: meal planning, blood glucose monitoring devices, weight loss, treatment for high and low blood sugars, medication management, dietary supplements, diabetes myth busters, monitoring for complications and what’s new in diabetes research and technology.
When: Second Tuesday of each month 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Third Thursday each month 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Stroke Support Group

This group for survivors, their families and caregivers meets on the third Saturday of the month in the Northwest Hospital TCU Auditorium of the Rehabilitation Center, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m, except December, July, and August. Weight Loss Surgery Support Groups

Our monthly support groups provide an opportunity to interact with other post-operative weight loss surgery patients and discuss the physical and emotional changes following bariatric surgery. Our support groups are open to patients from other practices and individuals researching bariatric surgery. Call (206) 368-1350 for more information.
